We Have Our First No-Till Market Garden Book... and It’s Great!

Coming out on the 25th of January (that’s tomorrow) will be Andrew Mefferd’s new book The Organic No-Till Farming Revolution: High Production Methods for Small Scale Farmers (New Society). It’s on pre-order now, which means you will get a 20% discount if you go ahead and order (just do it right now, so you don’t forget).

I can attest, having written two reviews of this book already (one for Hobby Farms and the other for Growing for Market), that it is well-timed and a thoroughly engaging read. So, I’m not going to fully review it here… I mean, if you’re at this site I can assure you that you will love it, but I will give a general rundown (spoiler alert)

Mefferd’s new book is divided into two main sections: the first is a succinct overview of no-till—the whys and hows—including a variety of methods. He does an excellent and objective job of talking about no-till without vilifying the tiller or tillage farmers, while also contrasting the inefficiencies of tillage farming with the possible advantages of no-till.

The second section—well over half of the book—is seventeen insightful interviews with a variety of different growers. Some of them you may know, like Neversink and Signing Frogs, and others you may not. I certainly didn’t. And I won’t spoil who they are, because—well—what’s the fun in that?

The Organic No-Till Farming Revolution is a captivating [no]dig into many different methods of no-till growing coming from someone who not only knows how to write—as the editor of Growing for Market Magazine—but also from the same person who wrote The Greenhouse and Hoophouse Growers Handbook (New Society, use discount code NOTILL for 35% off)—arguably one of the best and most important technical books of the last 20 years for small-scale growing (definitely in my top 10).

I don’t want to give too much away, so order your copy today (to get the pre-order discount) and make some room on your bookshelf for all the forthcoming books on no-till market gardening that this book will no doubt inspire.
