No-Till Growers by the $s for 2021
For those who might be interested, what does it take to run a podcast network like No-Till Growers? Here’s a break down of our end-of-the-year numbers for last year along with a few contextual notes.
Revenue
- Sales of The Living Soil Handbook, as well as those sweet hats.
- Patrons are anyone who contributed through Patreon, PayPal, Venmo, or that guy who just sent us a random check in the mail. Combined with sales—because sales all come from you amazing listeners—our work is overwhelmingly community supported. hmm, CSP, community supported podcasts…
- Sponsors for 2021 include: Growing for market Magazine, RIMOL Greenhouses, BCS America, Farmers Web, Tilth Soil, Association of Specialty Cut Flower Growers, Farmers Friend, Johnny’s Selected Seeds, Tunnel Vision Hoops, Southern Exposure Seed Exchange, and Barn2Door.
- Grants for 2021 are from SARE, you can find our most recent documentation here.
- YouTube, obvs. Check out our new videos if you haven’t already.
Expenses
- Persons includes Jesse, Myself, and all of our other contributors. We work to make sure they are paid well for their time, because they are full-time farmers too, which is why we think their input is so valuable, and they take time away from their own farms and lives to share their and others expertise.
- Cost of Goods & Shipping. Books, hats, mailers, shipping, selling things costs money. Kind of like veg.
- Equipment & Office consists of all the physical stuff that comes along with making videos and podcasts, as well as the equipment we use in the field so we have an objective opinion about it.
- Every month, we donated $300 to an organization doing good work for small-farms. Our goal is to contribute 10% of our revenue to various organizations each year.
Here is what came of all of it…
- Over 100+ hours of podcasts across five series accumulating over one-million downloads.
- Thirty free videos on YouTube including Jesse’s awesome digressions.
… And we’re only getting started. Now, we grow. We’ve launched a new series on small-scale commercial seed growing with Dan Brisebois this year, as well as a new series coming out IN JUST TWO WEEKS, and still have a wealth of videos and ideas on deck. There is so much more we want to do, more events, more on-site videos with stellar farmers all over the country, and we still need our community of support. Our primary goal is to make real growing information free for everyone, everywhere. No paywalls. There are a few ways you can help us do just that:
1 Sign-up for our Patreon or make a sustaining contribution through PayPal.
2 Buy the book if you haven’t already, it has way more detail than can be covered in an hour of podcasting or twenty minute YouTube video.
