Wild Hope No-Till Cover Crop Presentation

Sometimes, the last thing we want to do as farmers is sit down to watch a presentation. We’d much rather see things as they are in real time out in the field. BUT, we had to include the presentation, because it is dense with valuable information. That said, you can see videos of much of what Shawn from Wild Hope is talking about—the tools, the stages of transition, etc—over at the No-Till Growers Patreon or walk alongside in the farm tour we posted here.

This is the full presentation from the workshop at Wild Hope Farm (w/Shawn Jadrnicek) in Chester, SC. No-till, cover crop, organic, permaculture, 12 acre farm. Farmer Shawn has over two decades of farming experience and has experimented with many different combinations and techniques of no-till and low-till cover cropping. In the presentation, he breaks down his top picks for the SouthEast, a step by step process for using cover crops to suppress weeds when transitioning a field to no-till, and some of the challenges and lessons learned. There’s also a bit of discussion on how to adapt some of these techniques to a smaller scale. Give Wild Hope a follow on Instagram and check out their super clean farmsite if you’re interested in working with Shawn on a farm design.

The slides are hard to see in the video, so we’ve included them in a slideshow below so you can follow along.

Shoutout to Josh Sattin for capturing the weekend at Wild Hope Farm. If you’d like to see more videos like this, where we dive deep into a few aspects of exemplary no/low-till farms, go to our Patreon page and chip in a few bucks a month. It’s simple, the more support we receive, the more ground we can cover… crop.
