Forum Friday// A New Book for Southern Growers, Charles-3PO, & FixatioN
Jackson has been a little extra busy at StoneHouse (his wife’s flight home from the West coast was delayed), so I am going to rock this Forum Friday and give him a little break. But I have to say, with Charles Dowding on the podcast this week, it’s felt like a very busy, active, and exciting few days. My work here is almost already done.
The Year-Round Hoophouse
A post that flew under the radar this week was the review of Pam Dawling’s Year-Round Hoophouse, her new book from New Society. This guide is a gem, and although she bills it as a book for any climate (and it is) she also gives a lot of her planting dates and details which are really relevant to me personally only being a state away from Pam. So, check it out—makes a great compliment to Andrew Mefferd’s Greenhose and Hoophouse Growers Handbook.
Sir Charles
Our site (and podcast, and Instagram, and minds) blew up when Charles Dowding came on the show. I posted our usual show thread on the forum and Alex Hunt said it sounded a bit like C-3PO, and I admit that was my fault. The sound was a little, hm, roughbotic. Maybe it was just a glimpse into the future of no-dig droids… which indeed should sound like Dowding (“Ok, Dowding… apply one yard of compost to beds sixteen through twenty”). Beyond sound quality, let us know what you thought of the episode right here!
Nitrogen Fixation
On Instagram, I posted the above photo (a la, crap smartphone) of the nitrogen rich nodules attached to the roots of our pea plants that are interplanted in the garlic. What a crop. You can see a little more detail, along with some highlights of our May garden, in this video.
Dos Mas
There are only two more episodes of the podcast to come in TNTMGP, Season One. Are you pumped? Sad to see it end? Missing the theme music already? Well, you’ll be glad to know that we will officially be doing a second season of this podcast in the fall (probably September, though around here that is hardly “fall”). We have been blown away by the support. Just completely blown away. We hit our $1k mark on Patreon and are still rolling. The more the Patreon grows, the more we can grow the site, the podcast, the videos, the trials… the travels? We’re in it just as much for your learning as ours, so let us know what you’d like to hear about no-till in season two. We will also be announcing our first no-till event to donors (many of whom will receive discounts) this week, so if contributing to the show—the movememen!?—has been on your to do list, now is the time!
Otherwise, don’t forget to no-till your heart out this week.
